What defines a person?

What defines a person?

Is it what they do? Is it what they wear?

Is it where they grew up or the people they hang out with?

Can a job, money, clothes, stuff make a difference?

Once you are seen in one way can you ever change that?

I am trying to break the mold I have established for myself. Rewriting my future so to speak. But I wonder if those who knew me before the change will ever see me as the new person or will I always be the person I was to them.

Can you ever truly change, or are we stuck with what we were?

I feel different, I look at things different, I even act different. But does that mean that I am different. Would someone who has known me my whole life see the difference?

Are we who we define ourselves to be or are we who others define us as?

I hate the idea of labels. Jock, geek, rebel, slut, loner. They are just words. People are who they are. They feel and act and think differently from others around them. No two people will ever have the same life experiences. They will never truly share the same thoughts or feelings on ever subject. So how can we judge someone based off of what we think or feel?

I want to blaze my own trail. I want people to see me for who I am. I am a different person than I was. I am me.

great post Kim you can do so much with a small amount of words. I tend to put too many words into motion

I love that, I am me.

I think people can change. It's harder for the people who knew the 'old' you to accept the changes you make but it's up to you to stick to the path you're on so that people can see who you have become and accept you as that new person. Hope some of that makes sense.

oh... I LOVE this post!!

I too hate labels... with a passion.

I know that I have changed a LOT since high school, and high school did not define me - which is why I hate the idea of high school reunions, because regardless of how much we have all changed we are so likely to see each other as the same person they were in high school.

So, basically, I don't worry about defining myself or others. It's a waste of time, and it's impossible. i think the only way to "define" a person is by their character, morals, attitudes, energy, outlook, response to internal and external events - things that cannot be touched or measured.

Over the past 3 years I've watch you transform into a completly new person (whether I liked it or not). So yes, people can change their views on you. But don't look at the past as such a bad thing, rather a tool to help you in deciding what you want from your future because I must correct you on the fact that you can't rewrite your future because it hasn't happened yet. You're changing your story one day at a time and I can't wait to see where it takes you in life!
